Kenyatta Powers-Rucker is an award-winning visionary leader, technology executive, and advocate for diversity and inclusion, with over 27 years of experience in state technological governance, agency development, and enterprise project execution. As the former Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the Maryland Department of Human Services, Kenyatta made history as the first African American female to hold this position. In her role, she oversaw the department’s IT infrastructure, managed a $100M annual budget, and led a team of over 400 professionals across multiple technology domains.

During her tenure, Kenyatta led the transition from waterfall to agile project management—a monumental shift that enhanced efficiency, adaptability, and project delivery across the organization. She modernized the department’s IT systems, implemented robust cybersecurity measures, and enhanced service delivery for 7,000 users across 100+ locations. Beyond her technical leadership, Kenyatta was committed to career development, offering coaching and guidance to ensure her staff had the resources, encouragement, and opportunities needed to succeed and grow. Her focus on nurturing talent and building a high-performing team contributed significantly to the department’s long-term success.

Kenyatta currently serves as Vice President at TriPowers LLC, a minority, woman, and veteran-owned business dedicated to delivering exceptional products and services to government entities. She continues to lead with a focus on innovation, operational excellence, and empowering government clients through transformative technology solutions.

Beyond her executive roles, Kenyatta is a passionate advocate for underrepresented communities in tech and leadership. She expanded her commitment to empowerment by launching a structured coaching program designed for women aspiring to and currently in leadership roles. This program provides tools, strategies, and support to help participants develop a clear leadership vision, create actionable steps to elevate their influence, and strengthen relationships with their teams—all while building the confidence to overcome limitations and make a lasting impact.

Kenyatta is the visionary author of the Ladies in Tech Anthology series, including Volumes 1 and 2, with the highly anticipated Volume 3 coming soon. This groundbreaking series provides a powerful platform where women in technology and leadership feel heard, their stories celebrated, and their potential illuminated.
